1. Buy a four stroke
2. More time fishing, less time riding.
3. Slow your a$$ down.
4. Remove all the unused items from your boat. Do you really need 100 lbs. of
soft plastics.
5. Pond fish.

If you aren't in a tournament, just running your throttle at 3/4 instead of wide open will save almost half on your fuel. You don't give up a lot of speed.
When towing
Keep trailer tires inflated to the max pressure. Fresh synthetic grease in bearings.
Trailer with cover on.
Hydraulic jackplate mounted motors-lower all the way.
Trailers could be modified to increase MPG a bunch. Simply by closing off the crossmembers under the trailer with sheet aluminum.
Tow with less fuel in the boats tank.
Reduce weight (less mpg savings when strictly highway driving)
Make an effort to eliminate things you don't need in the boat. EVERYONE carries more than they actually need. When fishing small lakes close to home, I can fit everything I'll fish with that day in a TINY box, and leave at least a few rods at home.
Boat: Have a small one.
Tow vehicle: Tow with a diesel car. Plausible due to the small boat lol.
Thats what I do. Gas and diesel here are over 4 and a half bucks a gallon.

100 pounds of plastics????? Just leave the wife at home. In wisconsin this saves us nearly 300 pounds of useless weight!

Disagree with the statement about "trailer with cover on" Every boat I see going down the highway w/ cover on looks like a parchute. Can't be good for fuel mileage.![]()

300#...must be 2!!
Do what to the trailer for more mpg towing???
Just slow down. That will take most 150-250 hp outboards from 3 mpg up to about 4 - 4.5 mpg.

Depends. If you have an alright cover or a very good one. I would trailer mine with a cover if I had a really good custom form fitting one that didnt puff up at all. Those have to save gas.
Send your prop to Mark and get it B&B. Not only will it be faster, it will also be more efficient.
