    Quick question rusty......

On my engine (92 Johnson 200 LE)on the top of the powerhead on the starboard side there is a plastic piece(long cylinder with metal rod and adjusting cap on other end with locking nut) that controls the timing advance...I think. That was replaced just prior to me purchasing the boat. Anyway, the boat had a very high idle when I got it messed with the throttle cable to get it down to about 1000. What is the proper way to adjust that plastic piece and set the idle. Ok so maybe it wasn't a wuick question just wanted to give you all the info I could!!

    Thanks!
    Joe

Did you adjust the idle with the motor in the water or on the hose?

It was on the hose.......And the last time I was out it had a little trouble starting after it sat for a little. Wasn't sure If I adjusted the idle properly. The plastic piece is touching the roller for the carbs.

On the hose the idle needs to be set about 1200 so the motor will idle correctly in the water, the plastic knob should be adjusted in so the timer base touches the stop on the opposite side.

Ok I'm back...it is hitting the stop. I'll mess with the idle plus I should get a manual for this damn thing too!!

Factory manual is the best bet.....This is for the guys reading this If you are the type to work on your own motor get a Factory Service Manual from BRP , if its older than a 1995 you will have to check out http://www.kencook.com or you can call them @ 414-466-6060, they will not sell you the manual but you can get a part number.

This site takes a while to navigate but it is the only source for older OMC manuals.
