I have so many rods and reels that I decided to identify each. I buy the 1/2-3/4 inch, color assorted, round stickers which you can find at wal-mart or any office supply store and color code my paired rods and reels. For example, I remove a reel from it's rod and place a red sticker on the reel, and a red sticker on the rod. I then give the rod and reel combo a letter(a,b,c...etc), then I write it down on both stickers, also writing what line it has on it, so i don't forget. So now when i take my rods and reels apart to clean, repair or change line, I just match up the stickers and letters and put them back together. Hope this helps somebody out there.
