Inexpensive and Effective Plastic Storage System!

Having fished for many years, I have struggled with how to store and organize my plastic baits. Leave them in the bags they came in and put them in paper bags, boxes, the bottom of my boat etc., etc. I then tried taking them out of the bags they came in and put them in catalog or ring binders. These binders are plastic bags that have holes punched in them to be placed in the ringed binders. Trying to remember the exact color, size, length etc., once they had been taken out of their original bags was almost impossible for me. Plus the scents which they originally came with seemed to dissipate once they were no longer in their original bag. Last year I bought and installed an Easy View Tackle System. They are sponsors on the BBC and it is a great product. I am still going to use the system, but for other purposes.

So recently I came up with this system which seems to work perfect for me.

I bought two plastic storage boxes from Walmart. They are designed for DVD / CD storage. They are obviously DVD sized and are about 18" long.
They meet my requirements which are as follows.

    1. I can keep my plastics in their original plastic bags, so that I will know the exact color, size, etc., etc., and the scents, salt etc. stay on the baits.

    2. The storage boxes have a lid that locks in place so the baits cannot be dislodged from the container.

    3. I have the ability to sort the baits by type or color etc., and then search for the right bait very easily.

    4. I am also able to take inventory very easily and will know when I need to replenish certain baits.

    5. The storage system needed to fit nicely into my tackle or storage boxes without taking up too much room and be readily accessible.

So this is what I came up with.

Notice the latches that will prevent the box from spilling. You will also note that they are water proof.

Side view. By being transparent it is easier to view the contents of the box although I have labeled the boxes according to their contents.

Notice that I made dividers and labeled them. I have tubes, craws, worms, lizards, etc., etc.

Although it is hard to see, this boxes also have a retainer clip in the front of the box (it is blue in the very front) that slides back and forth in order to press against the contents holding them in place, in case your is not completely filled to the gills! Best of all if these get full, I can just add another box!

That's it. Total cost for two boxes about $10.00 including the dividers and tax! Having my soft plastics where I can find them...Priceless!!

Good idea--was just noticing yesterday my t/box was pretty cluttered with packages. Off to the Mart.

Look in house wares. They have all kinds of plastic storage bins etc. A lot of stuff from rubbermaid, etc. They have plastic clothes storage boxes, plastic shoe boxes and these things were for CD's or DVDs. Hope that helps! Good luck!
