    2006 E-tec 200 hp

Well some of you may remember me getting on here a month ago and said my 2006 200 hp etec just blew it's third powerhead. That happend the end of June and the warranty expired in May. Well after going back and forth with BRP and doing what they said, the best they would do for me was $2000 off for new injectors and a powerhead, and 6 month warranty on both . Not to mention, no one still has any idea what is causing these powerhead failures. Therefore, there is no way I am going to throw six grand at this motor in hopes it does not happen again. In all honesty, after getting nowhere for two months with BRP, I will never buy an Evinrude again. This entire experience is absolutly miserable, and I hope anyone who loves to bass fish as much as me will never have to go through something like this. Time for hunting season.

Too bad there isn't a BoatFax.com huh? There are plenty of E-tecs in service today with no issues. Remember you bought the boat knowing the warranty was going to expire. You also didn't ask for an engine history report on the engine nor did you call BRP and ask if there were any issues with the motor. As a purchaser that is certainly your right. There are no bullet proof motors out there check the other forums they all blow. How would you feel if you bought a brand new Merc 200 XS and it blew on the second time out and found out that the motor carried no warranty at all from the factory. I bet you would be on the I hate Merc band wagon. We gave you the info to call them they made the offer that they deemed proper and appeared willing to assist on an out of warranty motor. I really do hate it for you and was hoping that they would do something for you. Sorry for your bad luck.

Thanks. I don't disagree with any of that, its just sad that motors like Merc (who I wouldn't buy either) or Evinrude produce such pieces of junk. That's where my problems lies. I mean this motor has less than 80 hrs. on it, and roughly $22,000 in repairs on it and all I can get from rude is 2 grand. Some may say that I am lucky that they are even helping me out, but I sure as hell don't feel very lucky, I feel like 2,000 is an insult.

ChampioNman, what can expect to get out of this motor on trade in?

History of a used engine, +map upgrades,+ computer printouts, + compression check and a big + care taken after delivery... JMHO I have an 03 DI, and I've run nothing but xd-100 and a good fuel system treatment. I'm unfortunate that I can't get real gas, only 10% ethanol fuels, but with proper care and a good oil, these engines are as good as you can get with the epa leaning 'em out so much.

Agreed and I followed the same with the same oil (XD100), except for the fact that everything looked and performed excellent until it had an unexplainable meltdown.

I would bet that there is a rigging issue with the boat and it wasn't the motor's fault at all.

No I am referring to a rigging issue. You got the chitty end of the stick on this deal and I can and am/have been siding with you on your delema. BRP gave you the best deal they could do on an out of warranty motor. I don't know what else to say on this issue. I'm sorry for your problem. It is what it is and I can't go or do anymore than what BRP has told you. I hate BRP has lost a customer and I can't turn that around. But keep in mind this is above the level of support that the Mods here can provide. We can't control the amount of coverage that Evinrude will provide to an out of warranty motor. We just fix them and try and provide possible fixes and parts info the best we can. It ain't easy being us and we try and do the best we can. Once again sorry for your issues with your motor. Better luck with your next choice.

Champ...I was thinking the same thing. No matte what color engine you hang off the back make sure everything is right with your boat. You don't want to pop another due to a fuel issue or whatever is causing the engines to pop. CHECK EVERYTHING!

Except for the fact that e-tec's have a history of these types of problems. For instance, the first dealer I took it to said they wanted nothing to do with it, because they wanted to find the root cause of the problem and Evinrude didn't want to listen to them, just throw more parts at it. To add to that, you know its a bad sign when your mechanic says "yeah cylinder number six is where your problem is at and I have seen this before on e-tecs for whatever reason."
