    Top speed..

Using the new Champion 210 as a example..Which engine would have the best top speed...e-tec 225 ho or e-tec 250 ? What are the major differences between these 2 engines ? Checked out specs..only see a small variation on gearing and weight..Thanks for your feedback..

J D the ho model will be best.It has a higher speed LU.I remember Keneth? on these boards had a Ranger with the 250 & he put the ho LU on it & gained (I think)3 or 4 mph.The HP on both motors is the same, around 248.

I'll be at the Champ plant in early April to check out the hull. Here is my guess and only a guess. This is based on a 206 hull. You would be better off with a 250 than the HO on a 210 or 206. You need the bottom end torque of the 250, The 225 HO in my opinion is best suited for a Champ 198 or a 203. But this is one of those quasi post, where to I put it up things. BRP or ChampioN board. Anyway a great question. I have driven a 206 with a 250 Verado and it is a dog. Best out of a plant boat I could get at Guntersville was 71.4. Drove another 206 with a 250 HPDI and M prop and was coming in right around 73.4. Have yet to drive one with a Rude on it. Todd Morgan or Pat Goff or Aaron Swann would be the ones to quiz. CM

I can't wait until Kenneth sees this thread!!!
Inky's partially right. Kenneth's boat was a 201 Pro Stratos. He had the 250 E-tec on the boat which comes with the Magnum lower unit. He had some warranty work performed in which case they only had a Lightning lower unit to go back on, essentially making his motor a 225 H.O. It did gain him 3-5 more mph. So, with that boat, the 225 H.O. will get you about 3-5 more mph over the 250.

Here's my opinion. I don't care if it's on a Blazer 202, a Z22 Ranger, or a 210 Champ, I'd have a 225 H.O. on it before the 250. The motors have just as much torque, but the efficiency of the Lightning lower unit gives you more versatility.

    Kenneth and a Ranger!

You DEFINITELY need the 225HO instead of the 250. There was someone else that bought a Ranger and did not listen to me. The last I remember, he was looking for a Lightning Gearcase to put on his 250.

I really cannot tell any difference between the 225HO that I currently have and the 250 with the Lightning Gearcase. This being said, the biggest difference between the 225HO and 250 is the gearcase. The Magnum Gearcase (standard on the 250) is a good gearcase but it displaces too much water. The Lightning Gearcase has been very reliable on the E-TEC.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Without being too specific......
    <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 1niceBlazer &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> ........a Lightning lower unit to go back on, essentially making his motor a 225 H.O. Kenneth didn't make a 250 H.O. by swapping those lower units. He came a LOT closer to turning the 250 into a 225 H.O.

Reread my post. If (I mean when) BRP puts out a 250 H.O., it will not just be a 250 with a different lower unit. That motor will be "factory tuned for high performance", just like the 225 H.O. (in case you haven't figured it out, the 225 H.O. is not putting out 225 hp).

    Here's a picture of the new 250 H.O.:
