    225 H.O. Reliability?

I have the opportunity to purchase my first bassboat; Stratos 201 pro xl with 225 H.O (120hrs). The boat is in great shape but I am concerned about the Evinrude. The motor has 3 yrs warranty left and the dealer has offered to add an additional 2 yrs. I have heard not so good things about Evinrude's reliability. I need sound advice and I feel like the dealers deal is to good to be true. Thanks, Jeff

How can you go wrong with 5 years warranty. The Evinrude is just as reliable as any of the others.

With three years warranty left it is most likely an E-Tec and as ChampioNman said with 5 year warranty how can you go wrong.

With that kind of warrenty why worry. BRP fixed a issue (shift rod) on mine that was really owner caused without even a question, and I'm the scond owner. Very happy with my Etec and the BRP warrenty.

I have a 2002 225 HO with about that many hours on it. My experience has been great with the engine. I may not run mine quite as hard as some others but I do get her up to 5800 to 6000 WOT when trimmed out now and then.

I have not had any trouble with my lighting gear case as some have had. Just the usual issues, replaced the water pump a couple of times, Keep her clean internally and try to keep good plugs in her.

And I only use XD 100.

Have an 04 225 HO - lightning gearcase replaced under warranty even though it was 2 months out of warranty; replaced a bad starter solenoid a year ago; recently melted a piston at 244 hrs (bad injector likely the cause), just finished the rebuild myself. Motor has otherwise been fantastic, and given the warranty I'd recommend it.

That said I would however recommend posting the model and serial numbers so one of the "connected" guys here can run a motor history report for you - if you gut says something isn't right maybe there's a reason for that. If you do purchase it buy the factory service manual - $50 very well spent IMO.
