Can anyone give me a price to regel a topcap? I did some research and the previous owner has already wet sanded it to the max. So next step to get the oxidation out would be regelling? Looking for a roundabout price so I can start saving now. Thanks

What are you trying to say? If I can't do it myself I'm better off buying another boat? Wth!
First off, you need to be sure the gelcoat is gone as it is fairly thick on a Bass Cat. He would have had to do a lot of sanding to remove it.
Is it solid colored gel or Poly ?
have you actually done the wet sanding/compounding to see if the gel is gone ?
Rough feeling does not always mean the gel is shot.......many times it is just the oxidation is so bad that the pores in the gel become saturated with residue and end up compromising the integrity of the top layer of gel making it feel rough.
A complete regel of the top cap/inner hull with polyflake will run some $$$ in a competent, clean shop
You can look for anywhere from $ 2000.00 to 4000.00 depending on time/material/colors. There is a lot of hand labor involved in re gelling a boat, gel is not self leveling like paint. Once it is applied it needs to be sanded in different grits to achieve a smooth, glossy finish.
No I didn't wet sand. So I'm not sure. I wouldn't pay that much to redo the gel right now anyway. But I can start saving for it if it does happen to need it. I will be bringing it to Doug at d&t to see what he thinks. Thanks for the replies. And now I at least have some numbers to go by.
I am currently re gelling my top cap so far about $400 but I have ruined a couple cheap sprayguns. Mines is three colors with black base and two flake colors.
That doesn't sound bad. I was expecting material to cost more than that.

That cost is about right to do it yourself.
If you have access to a spray booth then gelcoating a 19-20 foot bass boat will cost you around $ 350.00 - 400.00 in gelcoat materials to do yourself, maybe a little more if you need to redo some parts. Add in whatever you spend on sanding/cleanup materials, buffing pads, compound, etc might add in another $ 100.00
The rest of the cost is labor $$$$$$ in a shop.
Well I will see about how much I will be charged for that vs just a wet sand. If its already close to to the max per repair shops reccomendations then I will decide then based on pricing. Thank you all very much!![]()
