Looking at a possible restoration project. Just curious how much wood was used in the early 90's champions. Are they a pain?

I have a 1992 Champion SCR 184. Over the last two years, I have modified my boat a good bit. Structually I have added a deck extension, and installed a Troll Eze recess tray, and now am recarpeting the boat.
If you pull all your carpet, you find the same beautiful gel coat as on the gunnels, except for the lids which are pretty rough orange/red fiberglass when stripped.
To install the recess tray, when you cut the hole, you will find plywood under the gellcoat, and you will have to cut through some glassed in wood bracing...all wood is glassed in there.
However, if you stick your head inside the recess cut out hole, and look back into the boat....you will find the inside walls of your rod locker are only carpeted in the rod locker sections...the plywood wall that extends into the bow, is bare wood. Mine is 20 years old this year and that bare plywood underdeck is in absolutely brand new looking condition. My boat is in fantastic condition and I get compliments everywhere I go, and I dougbt the boat has ever sat out in the weather but...I think if someone left theirs outside and possibly bow low where water could pool up front...I think it could be a problem.
As for the rest of the boat...pulling new wires up front is easy as there is a good sized PVC pipe that runs from under the cosole to the front area.
Getting to the bilge area kinda sucks as you have to remove all 3 batteries, oil tank, and on board charger to lift the floor out where you can see the bilge pump, transducers and livewell valve.
Everything else on the boat is easy to get to.
The biggest problem I have had was my lids were kind of soft and they haven't made them since 1995...so get ready to pay a lot to have new ones fabricated.
All in all, I love my Champion!
Sorry for the long post...hope this helps.

I have a 90 model 201. I did the battery compartment in two pieces. This way, if I have to change bilge pump or aerator, I only have to remove the oil tank and cranking battery.

I have an 89 201 and still working on mine going to instll Starboard in the bilge and hinge it. New pumps are installed already and with the exception of the livewell fill pump they are all under the Oil tank and cranker. Made a frame from square aluminum to help support the starboard and add hinges.
Transom is a wood sandwich and encapsulated in glass. Only weak spot in my floor was at the center seat base between the rod lockers. I cut that out and removed the post base as I never used it anyway.
