    Carpet Off Now What

    I have the carpet off all my lids and there is still some glue attached to the lids how is the best way to get the rest of the glue off the lids they are fiberglass so I ddon't know what to do so can some one please help, Is it all just scrap and more scraping .

    I used a grinder with a wire wheel brush. The grinder is a lot higher speed than a drill. For the tough spots or spots I wanted to smooth out I used a belt sander with 80 grit or 120 grit on it..

    I'm still in the process myself. The best thing I found was to use one of these to scrape.

    It is one of the best investments I have ever made. This thing literally has saved me several hrs worth of work. Once the scraping is complete, I used acetone with a Scotch Brite pad. Be sure to wear a respirator when working with acetone. One minute you'll think everything is OK, and the next the fumes are kicking your butt! I used a small angle grinder and wire wheel for the corners and otsides of my lids, however mine are aluminum. That wire wheel can reek havoc on fiberglass in an instant.

    I used paint scrapers. worked great!

    acetone and alot of scraping! do yourself a favor get the decks as clean as possible, good luck!
