    need help with waxing

Hi, my 01 sx180 seems cloudy & dull in some area, especially on the green skeeter mark. Decided to use 3m cleaner. I've read a few things on BBC but still have questions. First, I only used the 3m cleaner and wax. I was putting it on with a 10" orbit car waxer machine. It only has one speed. I was nervous or worried about burning the wax so I went slow and moved the waxer around with only light pressure.

On the bottle it indicates that I should get a bright or wet or brilliant finish. My looks a bit dusty. I did start using bass boat saver and the gunnels looked a lot brighter. But the hull still seems cloudy.

Questions: I'm I using the wrong machine. I read that I need a buffer especially if I am using a wet sanding process but I'm not wet sanding. Will this orbit waxer work? The waxer has a white and then black pad on it. I read that this is the correct pad but is it? Do I need to wash the boat after I use the 3m and then put on another wax before I get show room quality?

I'm getting a dull look with a lot of dust (which I read is the correct result). Some spot I can see the circular motion on the area I just waxed. Should I continue to wax more?

As you can see I need some help. Many thanks.

Some pictures would probably help out greatly. You might have to wet sand those couple areas that you are talking about to get the shine back.

You really need to use a high speed buffer and some 3M rubbing compound along with the 3m waffle compounding pad. If you only have mild cloudy-ness that should brighten it up. If not you may need to do some wet sanding.

Re: need help with waxing (mofomike)

Thanks for the tips. I couldn't figure out the photos thing. A friend offered his buffer. The bottle says to use straight lines when working by hand or circular motion with machine. So, I didn't think the wrong machine would be so terrible. I don't think wet sanding is necessary and a few friends agree.

    Thanks
