    Rotted... rear hatch floor

So, not as bad as stringers or a transom, but the wooden floor that the batteries and gas tank sit on has started to rot. I guess all the vibration of batteries bouncing around over the years has worn off the fiberglass and then moisture has done it's thing. Since this isn't load bearing, aside from the batteries I figured I was just going to grind away the rot with a cup brush and resin over whatever is left. Good idea or is there a chance the the rot will spread into the stringers or transom? Or are they completely separate on a Skeeter?

probably should keep grinding or stabing with screwdriver until you find dryness.

Replace the entire board. Cut it out until you get to solid wood that is not damp at all.

Any damp wood left in will continue to rot.

While you have it open, you might want to poke around a stringer or two and make sure the rot has not already made it's way to them.

I'm going through this same ordeal. (See http://www.bbcboards.net/zerothread?id=675702) I don't really even know how the motor is on this boat (it runs but I don't know about compression, etc) so I'm just ignoring the problem for now. I thought about just digging around until I reached good wood then patch that section but then I thought about it may go all the way down to the stringers. At that point I just said "Screw it." I'm going to get wired up what I absolutely have to have, then get the motor looked at then I'm gonna make sure it still floats. I have no doubt that it will but then, if it floats, I'm taking my boys fishing in it and worry about the rotted floor later. I've already had it 2 years and haven't even gotten to enjoy it. It's just sat here taking up space.

Here is what mine looked like in my 89 SF175.
Ah, heck. The pictures don't want to show up so check out this old post.

I took care of it this weekend. Hit it with the cup brush on a grinder until all I had left was dry wood, then filled in the hole with long strand fiberglass filler. It's not pretty but it's under my batteries and the rot is gone.
