Im back on the water, kind of,lol. Project Hybrid

So as odd as it seems Ive been wanting a older boat with no motor. The goal is to fish some of these smaller lakes that allow no gas motors. So a buddy and I went in on this project. The goal is to make a FULL deck with no console, all deck. A 36 volt Minn Kota 101 with six batteries, run three at a time and use the other three for back up. We both do paint work and I can do some cool glass work. I have a bunch of automotive House of Kolor paint left over from other projects. Should turn out sweet lookin and be a heck of a fishing boat. Ill update this thread as we go. So far we invested

    700.00 1988 Procraft boat
640.00 Brand new Minn Kota 101 trolling motor
    0. Paint
    0. Wood for the deck, donated.
    Pics as of 11/4/09

Sounds like a great project... I don't know where you like to fish and if there is a lot of wind. But without a motor on the back the boat will like to swing the back end with wind.... You might want to work on something that will counteract that..

Nice! Sound like a fun project. I think I've seen that boat on CL for months. Just wondering. For what motor is the control box made for? The reason I ask is I am looking for one for a Merc. Black Max.

Yep that was it. I was kind of shocked it was still around. Its in great shape for the age. He even came down on the price. I will be selling everything I can including the controls. We are trying to figure out how to make this puppy solar, one panel per battery. Build a solar rack off the back and bolt it to the transom. No pluggin in,lol. I hope we get time to do some cutting this weekend.

We have a couple of electric only lakes around here, and the solution to them is always just throw some sandbags in the back of the boat to the approx. weight of the engine

    Suggestion !!

Thank you for posting this g353nv !! As said above, a great and unique idea. My suggestion, I am begging, is to take some xtra time for all of us newbies trying desperately to learn bout fiberglass boats. Think for an xtra second or two about what you are doing and why for each step. Explain it to us. So we can learn. What did you cut with ? How did you drill the rivets out ? Tell all. Show a pic of your resin, paint, whatever. Please try this. Explain it as though you were working side by with us. Make the immortal epic bass boat galss/resin wood work thread. Have fun with it. Give a blow by blow of your Saturday fight to the death with 25 year old carpet glue !! The boat gods are smiling

There are lots of great threads on this BB, but they don't help the novice very much.

    Re: Suggestion !! (Chub Lake)

Ill try and keep you posted as much as I can. We were going to do some work today but the boat is outside and it was raining. The Garage at my house has a 68 pro touring Camaro in the works, that cant go outside, lol.
So far we have LEDS for the lockers and rails. I also order a new LCX-28c HD today for up front where all the fishin will be done Looks like a great unit!

You could always add a transom mounted trolling motor too....If you added a powerdrive type minnkota to the REAR of the boat you could stretch the wire and foot pedal all the way to the front of the deck. And use it in conjunction with the front T/M.

    Pretty neat project.

Why did you cut out the console and rod boxes?

The console was cut to make room for a FULL deck. The boxes were cut out so we can raise the floor and make our own bigger boxes.

What engine was the boat set up for? I might be interested in the throttle cable to save some $$ when installing a hot foot.

I have an 1/8" welded aluminum rudder that was on my Javelin, you can have it if you want it, no cost. I see your in Sac., I live out in Antioch. If your ever out this way on the delta let me know. I can send you some pics if you want.
