    Securing Carpet to Trailer Bunk

I just re-painted my trailer for my 92' Skeeter and was replacing the carpeted bunks and guides. To secure the carpet to the wood should I use a contact cement or should I use something like a staple gun. Wasnt sure if the contact cement would work with the constant dunking in the water. Any tips would be awesome/ Will be putting on the decals for the trailer tomorrow and will post so pictures.

I am fixing to re-carpet my boards and everyone I have talked to has said to use the Staples........but I don't want slack to get inbetween I think I am going to use staple.......the company that built my boat told me friday that they use staples on all there bunkers............. Just thought I would let you know what I was thinking.

Was thinking the same, maybe I will use a little contact cement on the end wraps to secure the carpet in place and also use staples

You can glue the top so the carpet doesn't shift then use Stainless staples on the bottom edges to keep the carpet folded.

I think the rust proof staples are called Monel staples. You can get them at Home Depot.

Another Boat guy told me PL (polyurethane Roof n gutter) will hold up if it gets set.

When I put things like carpet, Paper, Visqueen down to stay, I use thing strips of Hardwood, and bronze or Stainless screws to hold the strips.
Make a "Wrap" around the Stick with your carpet and then screw, right through the carpet, you stick to the bunk.

I just did this to my trailer. I wrapped the boards with the carpet and stapled on the bottom. The manufacture did not have any glue on the original boards so I didn’t use any glue. I folded over the carpet on the ends of the boards about 6 inches and tucked it under the sides and stapled it all down. It looks great and not as messy as using glue.

If you dont have an electric or pneumatic staple gun, invest in one. I put about 650 staples in the bottom of my bunks. You go through staples faster than you think. Couldn't imagine doing that many staples with a manual gun. This was on two 5 ft bunks and two 10 ft bunks. I probably went overboard but I don't think my carpet is coming loose any time soon.

    +1

SS staples all within 1/8 of each other.
