    1996 Champion Re-build Log w/ Pics

Well, it's about time to get started on this project. This is gonna move a bit slow and will be updated w/ pics as soon as I get them.

1996 Champion 171 w/ a mariner 115. Owned since new. Stored several years until first of 2006. Unfortunately stored outside and cover had gone missing? Texas sun has taken it's toll.

Gel coat is gonna need wet sanded. Seats new wrap. Carpet is just falling apart. All black plastic or vinyl is in bad shape. The gauges, steering wheel, switches and dash need updated. New tires and rims.

I also have a wish list, but we'll see as we go. Here's a few pics to start.

Dropped off the seats today. Somewhere between $350-$400. Went w/ charcoal and a light grey cushions with black stripe. Got rid of the green. It'll take three weeks, but I'll get pics up when complete.

Also started the wet sanding on Sat. Went w/ 1200 first. Will go to 1500 and then 2000. Gonna follow up w/ 3M rubbing compound. And so on.

After the 2000, do not use rubbing compound. Use an extremely fine cut finishing polish.

Looks a lot like my 181 -- Mine's black w/silver-red-green flake and teal accents... Good Luck with the project... She will be very sharp when you're done

Well, I got most of the wet sanding done except consoles. I picked up HF buffer and went to the auto paint supply house. I bought the good pads and some 3M Products. I wet sanded up to 2000. Now the fine compounding then onto the final glaze. Here's a pic of the products.

Local Rockwall Marine is installing a new Hot Foot next week for $220. I thought that was a very good price.

After wet sanding. Can you tell the difference? Not sure the pic does my work justice. But, I haven't even compounded or glazed and waxed yet. before and after
