78 Champion

http://www.bbcboards.net...mpion

Here is my new to me bass boat. My first one. Bought with the intention of just making it sound for fishing didn't care about appearance so much. After reading all the restoration threads kind of makes me want to try some things.

Do ya'll think it would be worthwhile on this boat (once I get the 150hp running)? It has plenty of scratches, cracks and imperfections. Planned on at least doing new carpet.

Re: 78 Champion (vizla_32)

" Is it worth sticking any money into a restoration or is it too far gone? I know everything can be fixed but I dont want to lose my shorts on it when I'm ready to trade up for my next boat. Any opinions and knowledge about the boat is much appreciated. "
If you are worried about losing money, it might not be worth it to you. It is already a 32 year old boat. So any money you sink into it, is not going to appreciate the value much at all.
If you are restoring it to keep and fish out of for years then you'll get some value out of it, but spending money on a 32 year old hull, which has a value of around 500.00 to try and resell is not going to get you much.
If you do all the work yourself on the finish, filling gouges, wet sanding, compounding, polishing, you should be able to get by with a few hundred. New carpet is another couple hundred if you do all the work.
Depending on how much you have to put into the motor to get it running right, trailer work, etc You could be into it another grand total.
Depending on what you paid for it, you are going to be close to max value of the boat when you are done.
Most 78's in good running condition sell between 1500.00 and 3000.00 for ones that have been kept up nice, or older restos.

I appreciate the honesty. I just look at all the awesome job's people do on here and it makes me think it would be fun(and a ton of work) to take on a challenge like that. Probably will get everything running right and setup how I like it before I make a decision on how long I want to keep it and if I want to put any money into it.
