    stupid question about buffing pads

reading the thread on gel coat restoration, i'm trying to figure out where to get these pads, and if they are universal. I have a craftsman buffer with two rubber discs (5 3/4" and 8in) that are really thin, guessing just thick enough for a micro fiber bonnet. how the heck to i attach the buffer pads and where do i get the thick kind to avoid burning? thanks,,, pictures would be great!!

Re: stupid question about buffing pads (saliva2002)

I picked up both the compound and final glaze pad at a auto body shop/auto paint supply store. I looked at napa, pep boys, advanced auto, and some local parts stores and nobody had them. When I did find them they did not have the black 3M pad, but they had the blue one which they said was the equivalent.
As far as attaching the pad, the back of the buffer pad is velcro. It is an 8 inch pad with a 7 inch cut out on the back where it velcros to the backer pad of the buffer.

Re: stupid question about buffing pads (saliva2002)

The thing I ran into was I have a craftsman buffer and all the buffing wheels from the auto body stores will not fit. The threads on the craftsman are smaller than the 3m pads. I ended up borrowing a friend of mine's buffer that owns a body shop.
