I have been looking for a boat and I found one I like in my price range but it has this crack in it. The pic is of the inside corner of the transom area on an 87 bass cat pantera. This is my first post so the pic may not work.

Anything and everything can be fixed. Do you have a picture from farther away?
You need to look at the basscat that was just been redone.
It may be more than just a crack, it could be rotten. Don't just do the jump on the lower unit with it tilted up trick. That one showed great on my boat however I found out it was completely soaked and rotten by putting the motor toter on and over trimming it down. What happens it the middle of the transom will bulge out. Check it out thoroughly before you get it.
T his is just the picture he sent me. I was told it was like this when he got it and the previous owner had told him the same thing. I don't have a pic from farther away. From what other pics I've seen the boat looks good but I have not gone to see it in person yet. If any of you pro's could give me a best and wors't case senario cost and procedure to fix each I would appreciate it greatly. I have looked at alot of restorations on this forum. I'm not really interested in pulling the top off of the boat. Thank You For your help.
Make sure the transom is in good shape first, before you do anything! As far as the repair, not a big deal just sand it back use some resin/mat and regel coat. You can get the gel from BCB but their flake is a little fun to deal with or just used resin and have that hole area Line-Xed. I will be doing the same and will post some pics when finished.
what is the best transom test? push pull on the lower unit power tilt down tight on the transom saver and watch for flex?
Thank You for all the replys and help
Mine looked solid just jumping on the motor however when I over trimmed into the transom saver my Transom bubbled out like you wouldn't believe. DO both.![]()
Bass Cats are 100% fiberglass from what I have been told no wood to rot.

For boats today and most of the 90's that is true. Some co's were using all composite at this time but those were mostly high performance smaller build co's but most bassboat co's didn't start using composite materials for the transom and stringers until late 80's. This basscat has a wood transom.

+1 My 89 project Basscat has wood transom sandwiched between glass. I cut the deck for a recessed tray and I have a pic of the piece that came out on the Basscat forum under 89 Pantera project. I believe the transom is built similar.
I did not know that then like everyone said check the transom close!!

Melvis....dont want to the bearer of bad news....but,the top cap on the older Cats is glued in...removing the whole cap is almost impossible w/o major damage to the cap. See my post of the replacement of my '86 Pantara transom. We just cut off the rear for access, not fun but effective![]()
