    Mercury Motor Cover

Don't know if this is the right place to post this, but here goes anyway. I have a 2004 Mercury 225 EFI. It has some scrathes on the back side of the cover. Had a few when I traded, but I guess I have gotten into something last week. It looks like someone has taken a scraper and scraped down the shiney plastic. It is now a dull &or rough gray. It is in just a few spots, but still looks bad. I assume the cover is plastic. Without taking the whole cover down & sanding & replacing all of the decals etc, is there anything that I can do? Compound &or buffing, or wet sanding with a real fine sand paper. If so, I need a procedure.
    Thanks

    Re: Mercury Motor Cover (kybob)

try using an oxixdiation cleaner wax such as 3m cleaner wax,it doesnt sound like it needs to be wet sanded but if you do id use 1500 -2000 grit and keep it really wet ,and the cowl should be fiberglass not plastic,So id def try a buffer at medium speed a godo pad and some decent cleaner wax youd be surprised what that 3m wax will shine back to life,,and follow it up witha good sealer ,
