found a neat little gem today.

found this motor at a yard sale for $10 guy said he bought it new, and used it literally one time. figuring it looked cool enough for $10, i bought it. Took it home, put it on my boat, and didnt expect anything to happen. It fired up on the second pull Idles great, runs great, pumps water great. whats not to like?!

any info as to the year, etc?
    serial is j2848059

It's hard to tell the exact color green from your pictures, but my guess is 1967 to 1971. There should be a model number and serial number tag somewhere on the transom brackets. The model number will tell us.

I guess thats why we keep the ancient mariner around here Josh. The motor is a 1968 model year. Damn that Seahorse is good!

pretty reliable motor champ? think it'll push my 10' aluminum pretty well? my 8 hp merc would plane out and push ti around 19 mph if conditions were good.

Dad sold his 1969 last year, and that was one bulletproof motor - it got used a lot and never missed a beat...

He got a little more than $10 for his - you got one hell of a deal, Josh!

Don't run it at 50:1, go a little heavier on the oil, like 32:1 or so. It uses brass bushings in the block and on the wrist pin bearing and those need a good amount of oil to live a long life. You don't have to go to the old smokey 24:1 mix, thank goodness, due to the better oils available today. XD-50 oil smokes less than most others.

Also keep an eye on the rubber fuel system parts as they are old and not built for E-10 fuels. Remember that was built 5 years before our first enegy crunch of '73.
