depends...are you talking spraying it? or rolling and tipping?
with metal flake? or without?
what kind of paint???
gel coat as well???
I painted mine with Interlux Brightside. Should have upped the anty to the Perfection paint or one of the Petit products. The Brightside looks good and is easy to use, but not as durable as advertised. It was not difficult...but is tedious. PREP WORK...PREP WORK...PREP WORK. You will get very tired of sanding...and just when you think you are done sanding...sand it one more time.
Do not bother with the filler and imperfection covering primers...they are a complete waste of money and effort. They will cover the scratch you could put in the boat with your fingernail, but not much else.
If you want truly showroom quality appearance. I would say pay someone to do it.
Boat wraps are cheaper and alot less effort!
I IM'd you...
like I said in the IM, I do not feel you will ever get that showroom look of Gel with a do it yourself paint job.
If you have sprayed before, I would say you can definitely do this. If not, I personally feel spraying should be left to the pro's.
You can achieve some really good results rolling and tipping though.
go to Jamestown Distributors

and look at all your paint choices.
then I would find someplace that you can call and order small touch up containers of paints you think you might like...
there is a place on my website called Crowleys Marine...they can order just about anything and have quite a few small pint and touch up size containers of Interlux and some Petit products. Petit will send you some small containers of their more popular paints as well.

get the small containers and play with it and practice and decide what you like. It will probably cost a hundred bucks or so, but you do not want to "guess" at what you are painting your boat with.
The self leveling paint...like the interlux brightside...works a crap load better you would expect.
Watch compatibilities. You want a paint that will bond to an epoxy primer. The epoxy primers will give you the best bond to the existing boat. The gel is an epoxy type of product and alot of the poly primers will just lift off in a year or two.
