Need help to finish the job fingernail size gel coat paint chipped

I have a minor chip the size of my pinky fingernail on the side of my hull. I called BassCAt and got smail amount of GelCoat Silver that matches my boat perfectly. I have added about 4 coats to fill in the slightly recessed chipped. In doing so the 4 coats/layers has expanded to about size of a quarter rising above the hulls surface. It's difficult to spot if you know know where it is.

    1. To complete the job how do I go about sanding down the area flush?
    2. After wet sanding the area what paper and how do I wet sand?
    3. After sanding down area will it leave noticeable scuff or dull mark? If so do I just polish the area to bring to shiny luster finish?
    4. I was told the final thing to do is cover small area with fingernail polish. Is that true?

I am hoping you all can help me beat the boat rash blues!

Start with 800 grit paper, wet sand just the new spot, keep dunking the paper to keep it clean, once you get the spot flat, light wet sand with 1000/1200 grit.

Finish will be smooth but dull. Use fingertips and clean soft rag to compound it with some light rubbing compound to remove the sanding scratches. Compound till it feels perfect, then polish/wax. IF it looks good leave it alone.

Clear fingernail polish can be used, but will have to be compounded down to be unnoticable.

BassCat7, Thanks a bunch. Where do I get the 800 Grit and 1000/1200 grit paper? Can I get it locally?

Thanks so much for your help.
