I would spray a little penetrating oil all around the base. Whack it with a hammer, not on the side but right on top, hammering it down into the hole more. It cant get anymore stuck than it is, but it might jar it from its current spot. Then twist real hard. I had one stuck and used a huge monkey wrench and twisted it a lot. That got it. Scratched the pole a little though.

WD 40 wouldn't work on mine. I had to wrap with a towel and use a pipe wrench to free it up.

A little WD40 overnight and a strap wrench usually does the trick. http://www1.mscdirect.com/CGI/...79927

Maybe others have not had this experience but for me, once it starts sticking, it never stops. I usually end up buying either a new base or pedistal. In some cases I have bought both.
I got one out of a friends ranger, heck of a lot work! Die grinder and a carbide bit!
You can buy the die grinder really cheap if you have Harbor Freight tools near you and you can get carbide cutters for die grinders from (McMaster Carr.com) on the home page, left hand side, where it says Find Product punch in Carbide burrs then a page of the products comes up. look to the right it should say in GREEN writing "Tree Pointed End" then look at blue Numbers for Double cut then find 1/4 inch shank 4292A53. If you go this route grind a strip verticaly down in the tube but obviously first you have to cut off the post close to the deck. I WOULD ONLY GO THIS ROUTE IF SAY A PIPE WRENCH A BIG PIPE WRENCH DOES NOT WORK! Ok, So, grind a strip so that you grind all the way through the post wall and as far dawn as possible, this will relieve the tension of the post wall then try to use a punch or flat chisel to get it away from the post wall. Its ok if you beat up the post it self, you might have to grind a path in the other side of the post as well.
Ohh and BECAREFUL to NOT LET the carbide bit grab a hold and go crazy, it will take off and do that deal like a basketball spinning around the rim and just about ruin the bit. But I guarantee you the pole will come out!![]()
Got mine out by soaking with penetrating oil over night. Then took large pipe wrench and pry bar to it. I was able to rotate the pole up with the pipe wrench just enough to get a pry bar under it. Had my neighbor apply pressure under the lip of the seat pole while I turned it with the pipe wrench.
The strap wrench is the way to go. Got one out of my dad's 519 with this method. Oh yeah, it won't scratch the pedestal either!!

teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.
For anyone who has had this problem and got your pedestal out, were you able to fix the problem somewhere to prevent from happening again? I'm dealing with this problem on the back deck of my Ranger. I just leave the seat in there right now, but it sure would be nice to be able to remove it whenever I want.

I've never had the problem, but I would think some emory cloth to the pedastal and the base insert would cure the problem for a while. It shouldn't take much. Just enough to get the corrosion/grime off.

bad part is that its the 2 1/2" pedestal base or what ever size that is. its not the little small hole. do i still go with the same idea though?

Yup,if the strap wrench slips wrap a piece of emery cloth around the post first.
I ended up setting up my friends post in a milling machine and using a boring heading cutting the diameter down .010 for a less snug fit in the deck.
