Pulled the old carpet off my Rangertrail bunks and noticed that no glue was applied...just held on with staples from the bottom and ends. Should I glue the new carpet down?...and what depth of staples shold I use...3/8?

I never used glue on mine but thats not to say don't. As far as staples I cant help you with the size but make sure you use stainless
I am wanting to carped the inside edge of my tire fenders. Curious if only glue would be good for this?

Home Depot, Lowes, Northern Tool for the stainless staples--- don't know the length...probably depends on carpet thickness, but I'll prob use 1/2".
Is anyone using/used padding under the carpet, and what oz. weight would you recommend??
Thanks.
Where's your boat while doing the bunks???![]()
Haven't started the job yet, but i'm just going to put the boat in the water and replace existing bunks with precarpeted/ predrilled new bunks and hardware.
I think I'll park the trailer on the ramp for a few hours,,. maybe somebody will add me to the "pet peeves" post----I haven't seen this one yet![]()

Mine is sitting on 8 bales of straw in storage.....trailer is in my garage.
I replaced my bunks last year. I cut down the treated lumber to the correct sizes, measured out the carpet and cut it to fit. Then I applied contact cement to the top of lumber and put the carpet on. I grabbed anything that was heavy to put on the lumber for a while to get the cement to setup. I then came back and used the contact cement on the sides of the wood and folded the carpet over. I then used SS staples to lock the carpet down. I was pretty liberal with the staples too. That was for the bottom bunks. The little side bunks take a little more precise cutting, but I used the old carpet as a template when cutting my new carpet.
I then put my boat in at the lake and brought my brother in law with me to help out. My old bunks were so bad that they floated off of the trailer!!!!!!! I don't recommend waiting that long to redo the bunks!!!!! We sat the bunks on the trailer and marked where we needed to drill, drilled holes and attached with lag bolts and washers. All in all it went pretty smooth. One tip, double check to see what size bolts you need. Having the wrong bolts would have been a PITA!!!!!
That is just what I did, I am sure alot of guys don't use the contact cement, but I thought it was cheap enough and worth the extra time.
