    How strong is Epoxy?

I'm constructing an expansion deck for my boat and plan to use Epoxy/Resin? I'm using a 3/4" sheet of untreated plywood and am wondering will it hold up under my weight 235lbs without any support underneath. The area I'm concerned about is approximately a foot and a half wide. After applying this stuff does it actually make wood stronger?

Epoxy resin will make the wood stronger and adding fiberglass cloth to the surface would make it stronger yet. I would think you would be fine with a 3/4" piece of plywood, with a couple of coats of epoxy resin, with the supports being 18" apart. How long of an area are we talking here?

I ended up epoxing 2 pieces of wood together once by accident. Once dried, I could not seperate the pieces without the wood coming apart first.

I just posted this on my link. I have NO DOUBT that 3/4 will support TWICE that weight in a gap that is 22 inches wide like my boat. The Resin makes it STRONG.
You can follow the thread to see what kind of Resin and such that I used.

Is there any advise you would like to pass along to the rest of us...words of wisdom...maybe something you would have done differrently in hindsight.

    Wha? huh? Words of Wisdom?
First of all I cannot stress how important it is that you go WITH the grain of carpet. it is true that when you lay carpet if you put a lid the opposite or 90 degree off that it will in fact look and be a different color, depending where you stand.
Second of all, if I had to do it over again. I would probably go with at least 20oz carpet. I used Lowe's marine and it is a 16oz. Had some problems with corners and thin spots.
Next, I weighed the Deck with lids and hinges and Carpet and it was 113.5 lbs. If I had to do it over again. I might go with 1/2 plywood with cloth rather than 3/4 inch plywood. Maybe did not need as many 2X4 braces across (I doubled up). When I walk on this at 200lbs and buddy weighs 190 it does not flex and does not move.
I might have used a darker pigment and I went heavy with the Resin application and I might have gone lighter on the coats.
