    Carpet Wrinkle - Fixable

The deck lid on my rod storage area is long and narrow and in the process of recarpeting, even though I was very careful, I ended up with a small ripple about 2" long in one area. I can smooth it out, but after 10 minutes or so, it appears again. Is there anyway to get some glue under this? I thought about maybe a hypo needle or some other method. I originally used Contact Cement for the lids, but I do have some Henry's outdoor glue I could use.

A needle from the farm store or coop would serve the purpose well and you probably wouldn't be able to tell you did it...it won't crease when you push it done will it?? I would also watch for leak through in the hole you make with the needle. I really think that would work well...just don't want to get the glue on the carpet side. Probably 18gauge...or possible 16...16 would be easier but would have a larger hole...also depends on how thick your glue is your using. Good luck!! Any pics of your boat?? We would love to see them!!

Yeah, I've been taking lot's of pics. I plan to start a resto thread when I get them all organized and uploaded to photobucket. It's not near the gem of some that I've seen on here (no Ranger here, just a nice Glasstream), but it is cleaning up nice. I completely stripped it down, cut out and repaired two areas of the floor with marine ply, glass and expoxy, complete wet sand/compound/polish/buff. I rewired the TM, installed a new bilge and a 3-way charger. I've still got some re-wiring to do, the front casting deck to carpet (waiting on some machined backplates for the pedestal seat), and some general knickknacks. I could never do this for a living as it is taking ALOT of time and ALOT of learning, but hopefully something to be proud of when all done.

As for the carpet, it doesn't crease at all. It's not that much of a 'bubble' but it bother's me

Now, around our shop, we never make this mistake more than say once a week? Well, I don't really know how often but here's how we fix those wrinkles.

Use a brand new carpet knife blade or razor--hold the blade at a 45% degree angle and cut a slit in the carpet big enough to work some glue under the carpet, on both sides of the slit. Use contact that has been setting for a while--say 10-15 minutes, depending on the weather. The glue won't be too drippy this way! Work it under with a flat blade, a popsicle stick or ??? Let it set some more and tamp the carpet back down. If you get any glue on the carpet, grab some acetone or let it dry totally and you might be able to pick it off

Now, for those of you how have wrinkles caused by bait oils, attractants: We've never found anything that will work. It's time for a new carpet!
