Last season I ordered a walk thru windshield for my 619 Ranger. It was shipper from the factory with stainless wood type screws to fasten the windshield to the fiberglass of the boat. I use the boat almost daily on a large body of water, so the boat see lots of hours and lots of banging and vibration.
I had constant trouble keeping the screws tight on the wings of the windshield. I had to remove the rubber strip, and tighten them weekly. I eventually put a little two part epoxy on the screw body and that bought me some time, but ultimately that loosened as well. Towards the end of the season I noticed that the majority of the windshield screws has loosened.
I had the boat in over the winter for a new motor installation. I asked the dealer if he could replace the screws with nuts and bolts. He looked at it, and reported that there was no access to place a nut on the bolt. He put in larger and more screws.
Does not leave me with a warm feeling that this problem will be solved. Might buy more time, but I have to believe the screws will ultimately loosen I can't believe I am inventing the wheel. This problem has to exist with others. Anyone have any suggestions how to make fastening the windshield trouble free?
Not sure where this post belongs, so I am putting it on the Ranger site, and the Restoration one as well.
