I agree on http://www.bassboatcarpets.com
Jr, the owner, is the former owner of STORM Boats, when they were located in Pompano Bch, Fl.. He and Brian have carpeted a ton of boats and I can bet you that there aint a question they can't answer on re-carpeting a boat. Jr is also a certified/factory authorized repair service for MinnKota.
I too agree that Bassboatcarpets.com is the place to go..
I am refinishing my 1974 Ranger boat and ordered the carpet and it is very good carpet and the people there are very helpful...
I just receive my samples from basscat.
they really apear to be a lot higher quality.
but I do like the colors offered at BASSBOATCARPETS
My question is what is the digfference.
The bass cat Carpet is 24 oz but Plusher.
The 20oz seems more like outdoor carpet.
both are nece
If you have already stripped the carpet from the deck and lids, put the lid back in place and measure the space between the lid and deck. If you haven't stripped the carpet and are certain that you are going to re-carpet the boat, cut out a small section of carpet from a lid edge and a small section corresponding to the lid, from the deck. If the space is 3/4" you can use 20 oz. Anything smaller, no larger than 18 oz. If the space is smaller than 3/4", say 5/8", you can use 20 oz but will need to shave the vertical edges of the lid. If the carpet is about 1/2", you need 18 oz. Any thing larger than 3/4" you can use 24 oz.
Hey Razor,
That is the best info I have seen yet on how to tell if you can use what weight of carpet!! Nice post!

Just a word of advice.
Don't go with much heavier carpet than what your boat originaly had it in. Why? Some boats can only handle 18 oz carpet. I've seen it one too many times where someone starts to lay their new carpet, then cover their lids, and when they assemble them, they can't get the lids to close because the carpet is too thick.
So if you boat had 18 oz carpet, stay with it. If it had 20, go with 20.
thanks,I ordered the BAsCar carpet from http://bassboatcarpets.com/
Bass CatCarpet was 24 oz. Very heavy duty but not as close as a match as the BAsCAr carpet in 20oz.
I believe it is an exact match with my 94 skeeter.
I cut some old carpet froma none wear area and it is near perfect match.
I willpost pics of the project when i am done
