I'm about to order a buffer b/c the Birmingham store was out and I was wondering what bonnets to get. Are the teryr cloth ok to use the compound, and then use wool to polish??

Use the terry cloth with oxidation remover.
Use the wool for waxing.

if i can make a suggestion.. i purchased a base for pads from a local automotive store.. it screws on the buffer and it has a velcro bottom.. so the wool pads that you buy just velcro right on... and actually go around the base. its nice because there are no rivets or strings to tie. the other thing is that i bought a waffle pad.. 3m makes them for the glazing. they are worth the bucks.

So I work at a Ford dealership. We have a guy in clean up that does really a really good job on cars. Are the compounding and waxing ideas for cars about the same for a boat? I thought about taking it to work and letting him wax it and buff it out for me with the pro tools. I still haven't ordered the polisher from Harbor Freight. I'm thinkin a pro job will looks alot better than what I did with towels in the driveway...Do ya'll think a car detail guy would be able to do a boat?

ok, now i am confused! I take it there is really no standard for the polisher bonnets for each type of application, it sounds like each person has their own preference. I bought the polisher from harbour frieght and am going to purchase some bonnets....which ones do i get for each application:
compounding
waxing
polishing
Thanks

Compound - terry cloth
Waxing - wool
Polishing - wool

spend the money on good hook & loop foam pads. You will get better service out of them than the terry or the wool. They come in different weights of foam for heavy cutting/compounding all the way up to buffing. I got mine from autogeek.com They ran about $8 apiece and made the boat look good. By the way, thanks too all of you here that put up with my questions. The boat turned out great!
I think that "Bass ackwards" (can't remember if he has a c in the second word of his name) used the terry for all of his and did it on 2 different boats. It turned out nice. There are several posts about this search "Harbor Freight" or "buff" in just this forum and you should get alot of posts.
