    High speed buffer

How many RPMs does a high speed buffer turn? Whats the advantage over a orbital buffer? Thanks,,

    Re: High speed buffer (tr21alabama)

most are generally 0-3000 rpms......the high speed buffer creates alot more heat and actually cuts into the paint/gel........the orbital turns slowly and off center creates very little heat and is about like using your hands but much faster...the high speed buffer will give you much better results but you can also burn with it. i don't think you have to worry about that with an orbital........

1200rpm to 3400rpm. Anymore than that and you got your hands full. The rpms, plus the wool pad, plus the compound, equals Smooth and shiny and romves minor oxidation. Orbital just speads stuff around.

So you use a wool pad with compuond? Do you use the H/S buffer with wax too. Just trying to learn I have always done it by hand but looking for better results..Thanks

The wool pad is best for removing surface damages, such as scratches, minor pitting and oxidation. They sell polishing pads that are not wool (cotton?). The wool pad cuts and the softer pads polish. The hand wax protects. If you don't have oxidation you could skip the wool pad and go to the polishing pad.

Tips for using the buffer: ALWAYS keep it moving. If you stop or hit corners & edges it will burn them. (although the gel coat on a boat is much more forgiving than the clear coat on a car) Use lots of compound but keep the pad clean and free of build up. Cover your carpet, dash, motor, rubber molding, and eveything else. Its a messy job but you can make it shine like a diamond. Take lots of before and after pics.

    This keeps the pad clean.

Go to a auto refinisher supply store, ask for the egg crate style pad that mounts on electric buffer, won't burn finish like other pads. Father in law owns a body shop done it a bunch of times my self it is easy to do. 1200 rpms is ok.
