Is it the flek that you feel, or is the gel rough?

I'm not quite sure which it is... It may be the flake

You might be surprised, Walt. My son's Stratos had the same rough feel along the top cap and I thought for sure it was the metal flake. He figured he had nothing to lose, so we started wet sanding with 1500 grit paper, followed by another wet sanding with 2000 grit paper, an oxidation remover, polish and wax. It turned out to be nothing more than the very top layer of gel coat. Unfortunately, we didn't take any pictures but it really turned out pretty nice after it was all said and done.
