    chip repair

I have a few chips on my black hull from rocks and such. I have some grey marine-tex but what is the correct product to use to tint it. I am not looking for a perfect match just looking to hid the chips and also make sure the chips don't turn into more damage down the road.

    thanx

This is what I use http://www.evercoat.com/productDetail.aspx?pID=157
Don't use more than about 5% (marine tex recommendation) or it will severly retard the cure of the product. Either way, it definitely slows the cure so you must be patient with the dry time.

How long will it add?? I am not planning on taking the boat to the lake for atleast 3-5 days after repairing the chips to make sure they are cured.

Instead of being dry to the touch in an about 45 minuites, I have had it take up to 1.5 hours. Not a big deal. I believe it is fully cured within 24 hours. If it doesn't dry in a couple of hours then you used to much colorant and will probably have to re do the area.

I prefer to take a flexible piece of plastic cut to whatever size and shape I need and feather in the edges rather than sand it afterwards. Make sure you prep the area before application. I usually scuff with a little sand paper then wipe the area down with acetone to prep.
