I found a few types of carpet, ranging from low to high price. Is the difference between the two that much different? Can I get away with the cheaper stuff? thanks

Most of it has to do with the weight of the carpet. In other words, how thick the carpet material and backing is. The 20 oz stuff is most normal. That'll probably run you around $250 or so to do an 18-19.5 ft boat. Heavier stuff is more difficult to work with as far as bending around doors and can sometimes cause doors to be difficult to open. Weights less than 16 oz. will wear out faster and won't be all that comfortable to stand on for any length of time. Sometimes the backing is cheap too.
I bought some 20oz from bassboatcarpets.com here about a month ago. I am still working on prepping it but it appears to be pretty good stuff. It cost me $189 bucks including shipping to my door. It is a 6'x25' roll plus it came with a knife, blades and instruction guide. Not too shabby. Note, it does NOT come with adhesive.

Definitely go with the 20oz. Get it from bassboatcarpets.com like hydrasport205 said. They are a great company to deal with. Their web-site is full of helpful info.
