    Re-wiring

How much of a chore would it be to re-wire my 1975 Ranger? I'm going to do it to my pumps lights, everything because it's a mess. Also any helpful tips? Thanks

Well if the wiring you have is correct, then you should be able to draw a wiring schematic as you go. I have a backround in electronics. But honestly haven't done this before either. Going to be re-wiring my boat and that is for the most part how I plan on doing it.

    Re: Re-wiring (LOZ Pete)

The hardest part is probably running the wire and getting at everthing. I have a buddy with an old Ranger and he had a fit rewiring pumps. Try on the Ranger board and you'll get somebody that has or had your boat. They can give best answer.

How much of a chore? I've rewired many, many boats, not just mine but friends and it can be time consuming.

The best thing is to start by making your own wiring diagram. As Rollo has already posted one I won't. Like his drawing shows, I like to terminate all hot wires into a fuse box. I also usually add a common buss bar for terminating all ground wires (usually).

I'm a little hazy on the color codes but the marine biz uses standard color codes for different things I think this is sorta how it goes.

    Red - Main hot
Orange - hot coming from switches
    Brown - Bilge pumps
    Blue - Dash lights
    Purple - Nav lights
Green - often used for trim switches as is blue
    black of course is ground.

I've seen a color code listed somewhere. Maybe you could google it up.

    Good luck.

Bingo, most of the fuse blocks has a common ground buss bar on the bottom of them like Cart7 is referring to .....I have a fuse block if you need one.......

I helped a buddy rewire his 83 371 last year. Email Ranger, they are awesome. Within a day they emailed me a PDF of a complete schematic of the boat. I was freakin impressed.
