    oxidation removal

I might need to post this on the Ranger Boat section. I have a '90 481V...has very bad oxidation on the top gunnel. Someone told me that these boats have clear coat on them. Is this true or just the newer boats? My boat is burgondy with red metal flake. If I could get the oxidation off I am going to try Bow to Stern treatment. Has anyone tried this product? I hear it is good. Any suggestions on my project will be appreciated. I don't have a buffer...so I guess my elbow and shoulder are going to get a work out. Thanks.

I hit the link and it came up on my computer. I am sorry it didn't work for you. Is it working for anybody else?

I have some Maguire 49 coming today. Do I need a special buffer pad? I think I have a buffer I am going to be able to borrow.

My bassboat that I just bought has a lot of oxidation on it as does yours PLUS it is metalflake too. Will this product help restore the shine to the metalflake as well or will I need to wet sand the entire boat first? Thanks in advance

Morgan 42: I do not know the answer to your question. I have not tried Bow to Stern yet. From what they say you have to get the oxidation off first...BTS does NOT remove oxidation. "They said it does not raise the dead." Could you get to the BTS website? One post said he could not get it up.

Once you get the oxidation off, BTS is a fantastic product. After the 3rd application, 2004 Skeeter looks like it's been refinished.

Check out Basscat 7's post. My 1990 361 sat uncovered for several years in a barn and had bad oxidation. I used the 1200, 1500 (2X), and 2000 grit sand paper on mine which took all the oxidation off and left the metal flake dull but uniform. I then went to 3m's rubbing compound #05973 with white pad #05723. I just finished this step yesterday and what a difference, (thanks Basscat 7) . The gel coat looks almost brand new. I am going to start on the final glaze part today (3m Final glaze # 06066 with #05735 pad). I went over my gelcoat 2-3 times with the 1500 grit on the really bad spots. Once you hit it with the buffer you will be impressed. The sanding is a lot of work but well worth it. Make sure when buffing you keep the buffer constantly moving or you will burn the gel coat ( I did this in 1 small spot ). Good luck.

to Basscat 7 or the original post of this process.

Thanks Mike. I just sent you a pm ...hope you get it since I am new at this. I tried not to sand but wound up having to...but it worked out okay. I just added some Bow to Stern and it looks new. This product is worth the money!!

    Re: oxidation removal (texas c)

I had to wet sand the top cap gel coat from oxidation and some of the blimishes on my solid white hull (rusted pipes etc...under the water leave's some nasty marks)...as mentioned above 1200, 1500, 2000 grit did the trick..I went through alot of difference wax's trying to find the best finish. Out of these products...Nufinish, McGuires, Carnubu wax, and Turtlewax Ice....No doubt the Turtlewax Ice left the better of the high gloss glaze...It's a syenthic wax...easy on and easy off...rather expensive compared to other brands $17.99 at most auto parts stores...but its worth the money...The hull was the easy part...pulled out all carpet and stripped hull this weekend...Man this shittttz is work
