    Which resin to fix pad?

1990 basscat pantera I have a question about which fiberglass resin to use. I need to fix a damaged area on the pad of the hull rock impact. I removed the wood from the area and have the outer skin left, ground off the gel coat from damaged area outside and preped inside. Do I use vynlester or epoxy resin for the repair and any specific gel coat? Its a charcoal bottom thank god its not full flake hull. Any suggestions guys ? Rollo?
    Thanks for the help guys

Epoxy. Don't skimp on the repair.

I second that. Use epoxy resin, not fiberglass resin. If you have wood showing, epoxy does a much better job bonding with the wood.

Re: Which resin to fix pad? (ProcraftMike)

I had to repair this same type of damage on my BassHawk last fall. The area had been gouged and was deep into the fiberglass, and I had tried several repairs but nothing worked.

Finally after getting some advice here, I tried using the Fiberglass resin and several strips of fiberglass cloth to do the repair.

Whichever type of resin you use, make sure to use at least three strips of cloth and make them longer than the area to repair. Also, make each one slightly larger (length and width) than the previous one, and smooth them out.

After a day or so, you can do some sanding and then use a marine grade epoxy paint to cover the repair. Make sure you use at least 3 coats of this paint, and wait no less than 24 hours between them.

Once finished the repair will be solid, and the paint is slick and hard.

The only problem I had was that my hull is glitter (flake) and the repaired area is not, but it is behind the driver's seat and on the edge of the running pad.

Has held up to almost a year of serious use and abuse since then
