    Ranger Lids....

I am recarpeting my boat right now. I am down to just the back deck and the lids. My question is this. when i took the lids off, there were about 100+ rivets in all five lids. Each lid had a piece of 1/4" aluminum that covered the carpet at the very bottom of the lids, it was held on by rivets. Should i put this piece back on or can i leave it alone and just carpet over the holes where the rivets were? I would imagine that the pieces were to hold the carpet down on the edges but i am not sure.

by the way, the boat was made in 1981, ranger 370V..

Pics will be on here once i get all done...I may have to email one of you to put them on for me

I'm not familiar with your boat, but it sounds like the aluminum was just there to hold the carpet down. If you glue it properly with contact cement, I don't think you need to put the aluminum back on. I would imagine, you can add the aluminum back on later, if you find that you need it.

Tyson, I don't know about the liquid nails . I've never heard of anyone using it to hold down carpet. I would hate for you to use it and find out that it's not the right thing. You can use the outdoor glue on the lids, but it is not as easy to work with, since it doesn't bond real good on contact. I guess if I were you, I would chase me down some contact cement, since I know it will work and others have used it too, without any problems.

Maybe someone else here will have some comments onthe liquid nates.

when I refinished by 1980 168 we kept the aluminum rails. Just simply pop riveted them back on.

    it has held up fine
