    prop help

i just installed 6" vance jack plate on my 390v. im at around 3 1/4 below pad. 25 TROPHY 5800 rpms 20lbs of water 62mph and not much bow lift. Should a 24 tempest be the trick? when do you stop going up with the plate? Rooster tail is high trimed out but bumping the trim down brings it on down to cowling level.

    thanks,
    Jason

You stop raising the motor when you gain rpms but not speed, lose bow lift or WP. If your throwing a rooster tail running with a trophy your too high. The tempest will give you more bow lift which is what a ranger needs. You didn't say what motor you have but if you can turn a 25" trophy you should be able to turn a 25" tempest plus and 3 1/4" is the right height for the tempest. Drop it down 1/4" for the trophy.

I've run both 25 " props on my R91 and the Tempest+ @ 3 1/4" below pad has more bow lift and speed at 200 rpms less. You didn't say what motor you have, but if it's a 2.4 run the 24", you need the rpms.
Stop raising the motor when you lose water pressure, lift, or speed.

im running the mercury 2.4. and im setting at 3 1/4 bp. If i trim the motor down a little the rooster tail comes down but im only running at 57mph with the 25 trophy. Should i get a 24 tempest. I tried a 25 tempest and i lost speed and rpms. boat doesnt have much lift. I was told that i needed to run the 25 trophy at 4" bp. That doesnt make much since to me. i havent tried it yet.

Your running a ranger you need a three blade for bow lift. If you lost rpms and speed running the tempest somethings wrong because the trophy should turn less rpms because it's a four blade.

Thats not what happened on my boat with a 2.5L 200 and both props were like new.
Try running the Trophy at 4", you can always raise the motor back up. I remember that someone on the Ranger board was having problems similar to yours and he lowered the motor.
