triton tr20 new jackplate setup. i am new to jackplates. thanks

I have a tr20 triton with a 200 merc efi. Both are 2000 and the motor is 2.5 with 1.87 gears. The prop is 25 pitch 4 blade trophy plus. I have a horrible hole shot and bought a cmc jack plate 5.5 setback and 4 verticle manual. Boat runs 500 rpm under max and goes 65 tourney loaded. I want a better hole shot but don't want to give up speed. What settings on the new jackplate should I start with. I also have one hole plugged on prop should there be more or less. Jack plate will be here soon so thanks for any help you can give.

I'm sure someone with a Triton will be along soon, but always start with the easiest and cheapest. Remove the one hole you have plugged, that will help your prop spin up faster. It would help if you knew how low your prop shaft is below pad.

Definately need pad to C/L propshaft measurement and water pressure will be helpful. Sounds like you are too low with lower unit.

If you want to run a trophy plus drop back to a 24". 25" has to much blade area for your 2.5 or change to a 25" tempest. Set the trophy at 2 3/4" under pad or the tempest at 2 1/2" to start after you put the jack plate on.

That's what I would do too. I've got the same boat/motor but a 3.0 so mine is a 25" 4 blade and a 26" Tempest+. I run 2.25 with the 3 blade and 2.5 with the 4 blade. Holeshot is excellent, good lift and 22psi WOT.

I'd try it just like mdtritn said and work from there.

I have large PVS plugs in, you may want to try that or even start pulling them out one at a time.

Your hole shot is slow because the motor won't rev up with 3 holes open. You just need a smaller prop on the 2.5L motor. After your on plane with the jack plate you will be faster than the 25 because you'll turn more rpms.
