    Geico or Progressive

    Hello there!

We have our auto policies through Geico and I was wondering how their boat insurance is? I'm trying to find a company that won't give me any hassle if I need to file a claim at some point. I have gotten quotes from both Progressive and Geico (Geico being the least expensive) does anyone have an opinion on either one?

    I have a 1985 Stratos 375v with a 150 Mariner.

    Thank you,
    Michael

    Re: Geico or Progressive (mnall65)

I write with over 20 companies and Progressive is one of them. They offer a number of different kinds of policies. I came to this site to make sure the members here understand what there options are. I exclusively insure watercraft and have been working with the members here to educate them as to the different kinds of policies available. I would be happy to speak with you and go over all your options. Thanks Bob Luellen 800-339-1235

    Re: Geico or Progressive (insurancepro)

I have had Progressive on both of my boats since 2003. I like the fact that the premium and deductible have been reduced each year.

Recently I had to file a small claim to repair some fiberglass damage at the bow of my bass boat. The claims people were very polite and helpful, and I received the check within a few days. I had the Ranger factory do the repair, and Progressive paid the full amount with no hassles and no deductible.

Progressive isn't the only company that Bob writes policies for that has the reducing deductible each year that no claim is filed. I had Boat U.S. for many years and every time I checked other insurance companies looking for better rates, noone could touch my Boat U.S. policy.....until Bob and Worldwide Insurance made his debut on the BBC. I changed over to Bob and saved over a $100.....and got better coverage!!!!!!!!!! Give him a call and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

I thought I would be on Easy Street by now but somehow I missed the off ramp!

I have to agree totally, Bob offers the buyer the best coverage based on what the buyers needs are. I also changed and found that my covereage was greater than I had in the past at a surpisingly reasonable rate.

    Re: Geico or Progressive (mnall65)

I hit a submerged log and damaged the lower unit of my 2002 Ranger Mercury opti 200. Submited a claim to Progressive. They were helpful and recommended a marine dealer to repair the damage. I got an estimate of $2900 and submitted it to Progressive. The $2900 cost was labor and new parts. The claims person said that was fine and for me to take the boat to the dealer for repair and he would take the check to the dealer.
I get a call a few days later from the claims person who said that his boss had found a web site that sold re-manufactured lower units cheaper than the new parts would cost. This company was out of my state and all I had was a web site and a phone number. I would have to order the re-man, take it to my dealer get him to use it for the repairs. This would save Progressive about $500. I did not want to do this since it seemed like a shady deal to me and i had no background info on the re-man company or the parts. I told Progressive that I wanted to use new parts and my local dealer. They said all they would pay would be the amount of the repairs and the cost of the re-man. I had to pay the extra $500.

People had warned me that Progressive was hard to deal with when you had a claim but I went cheap and now I am regretting it. It was not so much the money that pizzed me off as it was the sleezy way they handled it. I will be looking for a new Insurance company.

    Re: Geico or Progressive (rangerb)

This is the exact reason I'm on this site. I have been trying to educate the members here as to the kind of coverage's they should have prior to a claim. Progressive is a great company but they have a variety of different policies. If the policy is written correctly in the first place the claims process is usually very simple. I would be happy to discuss any options for you. Thanks Bob Luellen 800-339-1235
