Fuel mileage of outboard??

Hi guys I bought a used Lowe aluminum boat with a 1995 Johnson 50 hp. It seems to use a lot of gas. What kind of middle of the road mileage should I be getting? I had a fiberglas rig with a 85 Merc that I believe got better mileage. Thanks for any ideas. Mac

almost impossible to say what sort of fuel use you SHOULD be getting, far too many variables, like max RPM, load, and type of boat and motor setup.
