Sweet!!!
I am planning a trip out there very soon. Are all of the ramps open?
I am not sure, call the Army Corps office and check the recording. Last weekend James Creek, Aitch, and Seven Points were open. I would imagine all are open now though.
I always launch at James Creek. Thanks for the info. The flood last week or so def. put the lake back to its usual level.
All work and no play....Sucks
I was on that same piece of water on Saturday, and found myself sitting in the middle of a very lare expanse of thin ice, just up stream of the 1 marker. It had melted a few hours later. My Bullet was acting like an ice breaker, but the bottom didn't get scratched at least..
Nice fish by the way. Any Bass caught at Raystown the past few years is a hard-earned fish, so congrats.

Nice Fish!!
I'm going to Raystown for the first time in a few days. I think my partner said that we're going to launch out of Aitch? Looks like the water is pretty deep in this lake. Any suggestions as far as tackle, technique, anything, would be greatly appreciated. Not sure what to expect. Thanks
Jigs, deep diving jerkbaits for smallies, chatterbaits, red eye shad for smallies. it is a very tough lake to fish, very deep. has quality fish in it, but tough to catch. it can be very frustrating!
Thanks for the info.
I'll be giving it a try!
Everything ragingrapids said, +1. Raystown is a VERY TOUGH lake to fish; at least for the past several years. Back in the 90's; especially the late 90's, ya couldn't fish there without getting into some quality Smallies. Not so now!! Now, you really have to work for every one. JMHO Good Luck.

I don't even want to think about what it has cost me for each fish I have caught at Raystown. A round trip for me is between $50 and $100 depending on if I take the tpke and how much I run the lake, and I am happy if I don't get skunked. Are you fishing for bass? There are many species in the lake, and your partner may have different ideas. If you are fishing for bass the same tackle used elsewhere is fine. This time of year look for the feeder creeks and see if you find fish that are staging to move to the shallows.

So what is all the theories on the decline of Rays for bass? I've noticed it to. I can still remember trips in the mid 90's when we could pull 5-6 fish in an hour. We used to troll alot too and hook bass quite frequently?
I think the striper fishery is just taking everything over and the striper clubs are still stocking the place heavily.. but the fish and game continue to let it happen. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the stripers they put in raystown don't reproduce so they have to be stocked..
It is sad, because they could have some great events at rays.. It has some awesome structure. Its a lake with a little of everything. We still catch fish, especially upper end toward the river. But it isn't anything like it could be...
I wasn't around back when Raystown was "good" because i was just a little tike, lol. So i only know it as a tough lake but definitely alot of awesome structure and many different types of patterns to fish.
As for the stripers, you are correct. They do lay their eggs, but in order for them to hatch, they need to have fast flowing water for the eggs to roll over the stone gravel, and there is not enough fast water to do that. Same goes for Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia that I regularly fish for stripers, however it is nothing to catch 10 in an hour at that lake. That lake in AWESOME for stripers!
Just got back from Raystown. Had a great trip. My fishing partner and I didn't catch a lot of fish since it was our first trip there. However, we did manage to catch 4 fantastic bass. Two Largemouth and two smallmouth. The largemouths were about 4lbs each! Maybe a little more. The smallmouth were each about 5lbs!! Unreal! There were some guys catching a lot of fish too! It seems to me that the lake can be very productive. Lots of fish in there. Oh yea, by the way - Lake Trout have teeth! Not like those Rainbows I usually catch in the streams! If anyone sees a Lake Trout with a Wiggle Wart in its mouth let me know - cash reward!

Must have been there before me.. I didn't go up tonight until 4pm.. fish for an hour or so as I'm trying to figure out an idle problem with my boat. Raystown has fish, no doubt. I had one of those nites where I caught one, but watched 100 jump around me. In a cove off entriken bridge and the fish started going nuts around 5:30, but no takers...
