    2007 E-tec 150 issues.

Last year my Fitch 150 blew up after a $3500 rebuild so I invested in a new 2007 model etec 150. The motor ran great all last summer and was winterized by a BRP certified mechanic. Three weeks ago I took it back to my mechanic to get it out of winter hybernation and ready for summer use. I had him move the motor up a notch and swap out the xd50 for the xd100 oil. He also changed all plugs and remapped the onboard computer. The motor only has 21.5 hours on it. First run down the lake and the " no Oil" buzzer was screaming at me. I shut it down and reprimed the oil bulb. The motor started right up and smoked alot and stunk real bad, the buzzer went off and "no oil" light came on. I shut it down and trolled back to the dock with the trolling motor. I dropped it off the same day and he called today saying the oil pump went out. My fear is that without oil, will that score the cylinders or cause some other damage? I did get the 5 year warranty, so he said it was covered and if it did any damage it will show up before then. He couldn't see any damage and the lines still had oil in them. BRP is shipping him a new oil pump to install. My question is, would you think it did any damage to the motor ? Does it take a while running it after the alarms go off to damage the motor or is it too late by the time the alram goes off?
    Thanks

Did you still have the XD-50 oil in the tank when the mechanic re-programmed the oil usage for XD-100?

What was the temperature that morning when you first took the boat out?

Just curious as to what a mechanic did to winterize. Since it's self winterizing there's no need to pay anyone to winterize. That's one of the really cool things about the etec.

The mechanic said removed all of th xd50 from the tank and lines and refilled it with xd100 and primed the lines. The temp outside was 55 degrees on the day I took it out for a test ride. As far as winterising, he put stabil in the tank, checked for error codes on engine and fogged the motor. I assumed he would have blew out the water pressure gauge for water but when I got it out of storage the water pressure gauge was pegged at 30lb and doesnt work now. he said that is common for the gauges to go bad over winter. The boat has to sit outside so I triple tarped over the cover so it didnt get wet at all. As far as the mechanic is, I think hes a pretty knowledgeable guy and has helped me out with tips and advice. I don't think he misrepresents anything but I am worried about the engine possibly failing in the future since the oil pump went out and possible unknown engine damage. I am sure he will not tear the motor down just to check it but I would think a compression check should show any scoring or cylinder damage.

If you shut it down immediately I wouldn't expect there to be any damage. Had you kept trying to run it you would have damaged it.

Don't forget the E-TEC DVD that shows a motor running for hours after the oil line was cut.

Your engine is fine. The alarm went off before any damage was done, the motor slowed down automatically, and the system pulsed the oil pump a bunch of times and that's why the motor smelled funny as you ran it.

Thanks for all the replies. I talked to the mechanic today and he has a new oil pump on the way. He assures me there is no damage to the motor and if something shows up later it will be covered by the warranty anyway.
