    SO LOOOOOOOONG RAYSTOWN

    See ya in the Spring.

My rig has been winterized, is under two blankets and sleeping soundly in my garage. I'll wake her up around Mid March.

Any of you local guys still on the water?? I had 23 trips to Raystown this past season, and not very much to show for it. How about the rest of you?

Re: SO LOOOOOOOONG RAYSTOWN (This is Double J)

Hi Double J.........I winterized my Ally a few days ago. Unfortunately, it won't fit in the garage but it's under cover until spring. As you well know, fishing at Raystown has been difficult at best. I have hopes of taking my small aluminum boat out on a local lake or two if the weather doesn't get too bad. Talk to you soon............Bob

    Re: SO LOOOOOOOONG RAYSTOWN (catfish123)

I found a great deal for indoor storage - $100 for the season. The downside was that it had to go in on 10/27 so I haven't been out for over a month.

I made it up to Raystown twice last summer. Caught a few small ones. I did get hooked up with something good at James Creek but it broke my line (I think I had gotten a kink) before I got a look at it. I am sure I will try again next year, but if I don't get better results it is hard to justify the 2 hour drive each way. I can stay close to home and not catch anything.

Yep.......I know what ya mean Zelmo. That's a long ride for naught fish.

Hey Bob, try and stay warm over the winter. I'll see ya up at Tatman around mid to late March. Hope the ice doesn't hang around too long.

Double J, one of the things that could make it worth my drive are courtesy docks. Around here they don't put them in on the Susky until late April or early May. The official target is to be finished by Memorial weekend. What does the Corps do at Raystown?

I don't know what a "courtesy dock" is Zelmo??

Every access area at Raystown has a ramp and a dock, (some of which are permanent). AND.....every access also has rest rooms; most of which are glorified "pit toilets", but rest rooms none the less.

Folks who wish to stay overnight in their boats usually just beach their boat in a no-wake zone.

I don't know about you Double J but I'm already missing my trips to Raystown, even though the fishing hasn't been good. Hope you and your family are all well, and have a great holiday season.

Back atcha Bob. Like you, I miss being up at the lake also, even if the fishing is lousy. As I get older, I seem to enjoy driving my Bullet ALMOST AS MUCH as I do fishing. It would be nice to catch a few now 'N' then though.

Sorry. By a courtesy dock I just meant a place to tie up the boat while you use the ramp. On the Susky, they pull them out around the end of October and don't put them back in until late April or May. It doesn't work real well with boats like ours to beach them on the concrete ramps, and the shorelines are too rocky to try it.

If Raystown has a way to launch in March and April without messing the boat up I will be back as soon as I get it out of storage.

Zelmo............. As far as I know, there are "courtesy docks" at each and every launch ramp up at Raystown, and I BELIEVE that they stay in all year round. At least when I first launch my rig in mid march, (immediately after ice-out), the rubber docks are there. Put in at Snyders. Double J

    Re: (This is Double J)

Thanks, that is a big relief. I would hate to make the drive and not be able to launch. I will definitely go there for my first run next spring. Even if the docks were in on the Susky there is way too much debris in the water to do any speed.

Yeah Zelmo...........if you are coming in from Hsbg., you definitely want to put in at Snyders Run. It is approx. 1 hr. 40 minutes from the Clark's Ferry Bridge.

The Lewistown Narrows is open both lanes both directions and the Lewistown By-pass has been open for over a year. It's 4 lane driving from the Clark's Ferry to just before Strodes Mills.

Cya in the Spring. Double J
