    oil question

i just bought a boat with a 97 johnson venom 200 on it. what kind of oil should i run? it has blue oil in it and i thought the red oil (30) was for carbed engines, but it has blue so that would make it 50, or 100 i just dont know which is better for my application and i dont know the consequences of mixing different oils and dont want to break anything. need a little help guys thanks!

XD-50 is blue XD-100 is honey colored. Run which ever you choose. XD-100 cost more, I prefer to run XD-50 in a carbed motor but I also de-carb once a year too.

You'll have less carbon build up if you use the XD50 (synthetic blend) over the XD30 (conventional). However, if you happen to have any stores that carry it, I would give Amsoil HP Injector a shot. Its a 100% synthetic so the motor will not build up little if any carbon. Also, its about the same price as the XD50 if not a bit cheaper.

Run XD100 and then you don't have to dirty up your driveway decarbing it once a year.

Now that the last of the ice on the local lakes are gone I can continue after waiting for 6 months on the outboard side of things. I guess I could've gone ahead and ran XD50 and XD100 in my Polaris snowmobile during that time, as I spent the better of the winter comparingAmsoil, Polaris, Artic Cat, Ski Doo and other popular snowmobile oils. Thanks for giving me something to look forward to when the ice builds back up which I pray that it never does but living where I live I guess I don't got a choice.
