    Owen's Marine - Hooksett

Alright, what's the scoop on this place? They have a rebuilt Merc 175 EFI that fits my budget, but in all honesty, I've never dealt with them, or even heard anything from someone that has.

Anyone that has experience with them, or if you had a friend that has, I'd like to hear about it please. Good, bad, whatever.

If you prefer, send me an IM. I'm not asking for anyone to openly bash them on here, I'm looking for honest assessments of any business with them.

Re: Owen's Marine - Hooksett (Snover)

I will break down and finally tell you a story about my one and only experience with Owens. I had two props (Alum). I spun the hub on one and asked for a repair. They said a week. In the mean time, I had a back up. I was very green and had no idea a bent blade was not good for a LU. I found this out on a T day so I pulled out the repaired one and it won't go. The one they gave me was for another persons motor. This prop was not going on my motor so I ended up fishing the T with a bent blade. Went to Owens on Monday and gave the prop back. They swapped it out for another prop. /Was it my original that I dropped off? No. I pay a lot more attention to the details now when I have things worked on.

That happened about 13+ years ago. I can't say anything about them now since I won't deal with them any more.

Re: Owen's Marine - Hooksett (Mac)

Ya, I only got about 4 or 5 specific stories/reasons not to go there, and that was more than enough for me. Not a single person came through to tell me a good thing, or that they had not heard anything bad about them. That's more than enough reason not to deal with them.

Funny thing, the owner was emailing me every other day trying to get me to buy a motor. After finding out all of this, I was talking to my buddy about it while we were at the gym last week. That same day was the last day that I heard from anyone at Owen's. I think someone at the gym may have been a fan of them and went running their mouth. Oh well, I don't give two chits what they think, they're not getting a dime from me.

Thanks Mac, I checked it out.

On a side note, I got an email from them asking me if I was still interested in a motor. Aaaawkwaaaaarrrd.

Re: Owen's Marine - Stand Up Guys So Far

I see there's a bit of bashing of this outfit here so I'll kick in my 2c. I bought a boat they listed on C/L. The price was right so I put a deposit on it via PP. When I got up there the boat was actually WAY BETTER than expected. They'd said the trailer axle was suspect; it was fine except for some surface rust. Guy said they'd rather be conservative in their assessment...he wasn't going to put me on the road with a questionable trailer, and I told him I appreciated that. This boat was an absolute STEAL at the price..admittedly an off-season deal. I will deal with them again. But, as the old agage goes: Your mileage may vary!
