    SMITHVILLE LAKE

Anyone from the KC area and familiar with Smithville? I live in Liberty and with gas so high plan on fishing Smithville primarily. I have never fished it before, I have seen that it has 300 tournaments a year. Anybody got anything to offer?

    Good Luck!!!!

I'v been fishing it for the last two years.... seems to be a very tough lake!....

I'm hitting it early Thursday... so far this year 1 decent 3 lb in March and a couple of dinks....

    Re: SMITHVILLE LAKE (GunnyRags)

Last Sunday hit three keepers right before sunrise on a spook... sun came up and wind started howling.... Launched at Camp Branch and had intentions of heading up the main lake until I got up about a mile.... Damn... talk about pucker factor! It was worse than I have ever seen it... anyway, headed back to the launch and headed home... Trying again this Sunday.

    Re: SMITHVILLE LAKE (Spring)

What I have heard is shallow plastics in all the flooded brush... check this link:

    http://www.724outdoors.com/Fis...te=26

The nice weights finally showed at Smithville Lake today, with many five fish limits brought to the scales. Smithville Lake is on the rise with all of the rain as of late, which has provided a ton of “new” shoreline cover making the fishing fantastic. Frogs, soft plastics and crankbaits fished on the outside line of the cover are producing most fish right now. Most fish are being caught in less than 2 foot of water.

    Re: SMITHVILLE LAKE (Spring)

Gave here a try today, I'll preface this by saying Smithville is one of my least favorite lakes to fish on. Caught one keeper on a Zara spook on a flat and couldn't come across another bite till we hit a chucnk rock bank. 2-8 feet of water on spinnerbaits. Caught another keeper and a couple of shorts. I got an idea... I have a boat but no drivers license, anyone wanna take my boat out with me and show me how to fish this lake with some success. It's an 05 519 Ranger. If you got the tow vehicle and no boat... send me a message, I live north of the river.

If you're getting burnt out on Smithville, drive up to Maryville and check out Mozingo... Good fishing, lots of Tournaments going on... Smithville used to host 300+ a year, I think that number is way down though...
