    Mystic River - Boston

    Hey everyone,

I was fortunate enough to make the Ontario Bass Federation team for next years Eastern Divisional, which is being hosted by Mass on the Mystic / Charles River system. Do you guys know where I can good paper maps and which map chips will be required?

I understand it is tidal and can be a tough fishery, any truth to that?

    Mark,
Do you have any locations yet? There's a lot of river there. The Charles is a good river and can be tough just like any lake or pond. There are definitely big fish in there. I never fished the Mystic river but have fished the upper lakes.

Re: Mystic River - Boston (Big Al)

    Hey Big Al,

Sorry haven't been to this thread in a while - I am not sure where the tournament is launching from but have been told that we have access to both the Mystic and St. Charles, one is 6 miles long, the other is 8 miles long and has a pond at the top. Rumor was that it is all idle only as well.

It will be a 48 boat tournament (6 boats x 8 states). Not really looking for spots, heck we don't fish until next September so just looking to see what the fishery is all about. Are there smallmouth present or is it all largemouth?

Looking forward to spending a week in Boston, always wanted to visit, hopefully take in a ball game as well.

All largemouth The Charles would yield bigger fish. And there are huge Northerns there. Most of the Charles is no wake in the area near Boston. Depending on the launch site you'll have to travel through locks to get from one river to the other. I haven't fished the upper Charles in years. It is tidal but I don't think it is a drastic change there. The Mystic isn't much of a change either because of the locks.

    Hey Pat,

Just found out we will be staying at the official tournament headquarters hotel, no idea which one but apparently all of the teams are staying there.

I believe it was the Hyatt... I stayed there this year for the fish offs.. Nice place and they put a continental breakfast out early every morning for us..

    Hey Pat,

We received a bot more information from the tournament, and we are thinking of looking around for other accommodations other than the Hyatt - you are right that is where we will be staying. Was the Hyatt boat friendly when you were there? Apparently they are setting up some kind of a compound by the Yacht club near the boat launch to hold our boats during the tournament and it is mandatory to use if staying at the Hyatt, but most of us spend a lot of time in the boats by the hotel room rigging and drinkin' a few pops.

Any ideas as to any other places to stay that may be bass boat friendly?

Thanks for any help, I am searching now as well but local knowledge would be great!

    Mark

They used the parking lot at the hotel for boats for the state fish offs but not enough room for all at the regionals. Not very far from the hotel, (about five minutes), to get to the yacht club. I will check on that for you to see if there are alternate lodgings...
