    e-tec future

What are the plans for two stroke engines? I know no one has a crystal ball, but does BRP have any known plans to go the 4 stroke way? I have had two 200 HO e-tecs and I hope to replace the one i now have with another, (if I ever need to). The only reason I ask is because a bud o mine said all two strokes would be discontinued in a few years. Any thoughts? Thanks

I had heard one time that BRP might launch a line of Rotax type 4 strokes and label them Johnson's but I wont hold my breath on that. I don't see 2 strokes going anywhere as they're now run as clean or cleaner than 4 strokes. The EPA governs emissions, not engine technologies.

Honestly, the only threat I see to 2 strokes are consumers as the more they believe and accept the 4 stroke hype, they will move to them.

    thats just my .02.

When most people say "two strokes" they are referring to the older carbureted 2-stroke motors that smoke and waste fuel. Those motors are no longer made for the American market due to the 2010 emission laws.

Now the high-tech direct-injected 2-stroke is a different story. The E-TECs are still cleaner than almost every 4-stroke in reported emissions overall and will be OK even with upcoming stricter regulations.

Both E-TEC and Optimax have come out with new models recently even with the popularity of 4-strokes. People who have run both 2 and 4 strokes on the same boat like the lighter, faster, 2 strokes because they are also almost as quiet and smoke free as the 4 strokes. Don't worry about the high tech 2-stroke future.

E-Techs are here to stay. That is why you no longer see Johnsons being made. BRP has made the decsition that 2 strokes are better than 4. Besides the other comments 2 strokes just sound MEAN at WOT. Who doesn't like that sound?
