1999 175 Evinrude Ficht information/help

I need to repower my 85 ranger 375v and have a chance to buy a 1999 Evinrude 175 Ficht. I do not know much about the Ficht motors and am hoping that someone might be able to tell me what to expect from them as for as common problems. The guy who is selling it says the motor runs perfect except that after about 2 hours the motor will shut down and after about 10 min it will start back up again. He says that it is some sort of overheat protection in the computer but says the motor isn’t overheating. He said he thinks it is a common problem with these motors and that if I buy it I could either get a new computer for the motor or there is a company that will fix the computer on the motor. Any help or more information on the Ficht motors would be great.

i would stay away form the FICHT engines. these engines were the ones that caused OMC to file bankruptcy. they had powerhead failure that was all too common. the thing is, you either got a good engine or you got a faulty one. if the engine has over 3oo hrs on it w/o powerhead replacement or injector update then it is probably an ok engine.

the thing is that engine should not shut down at allunless there is an issue. if it it shutting down then there is an issue with it. if it is saying that there is an over heat problem, than there is a problem in the cooling somewhere. more than likely the engine is giving this guy a problem and he dosent want to spend the money to take care of it so he is unloading it on someone else so he dosent have to worry about it any more.

i personally would staw away from any ficht engine just to save yourself future cost and upset.

I have a 98 150 ficht last spring had replace charging componets $800 then just got computer rebuilt another $7-$800 . runs super when it is running . I also would stay away.
